Infectious Disease Situation in Singapore – Latest

As of early May 2026, the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) in Singapore is focusing on addressing new tuberculosis clusters in Bedok and has implemented enhanced measles measures following the official launch of the new statutory board in November 2025.

1. Active Tuberculosis (TB) Screening in Bedok (May 2026)

  • Situation: The CDA is conducting mandatory and voluntary TB screenings for individuals who frequented three locations in Bedok Central: Heartbeat@Bedok, Block 216 Bedok Food Centre & Market, and Singapore Pools Bedok Betting Centre.
  • Scope: 13 cases were identified across three clusters, suggesting potential exposure from January 2023 to February 2026.
  • Screening Details: Mandatory for tenants/workers; voluntary for those who spent over 96 hours in these locations in a year since January 2023.
  • Latest Action: Due to high demand, the on-site screening at Heartbeat@Bedok was extended to May 8, 2026.
  • Support: Affected hawkers and merchants are receiving a half-month rental rebate and service charge waiver for May 2026.

2. Enhanced Measles Measures (From 1 April 2026)

  • Background: 12 new measles cases were reported between February 1 and March 24, 2026, with11 of them being unvaccinated.
  • New Measures: The CDA has implemented stricter public health measures, including:
    • Mandatory testing for suspects in high-risk settings (e.g., childcare centers with infants).
    • Isolation of confirmed cases with random checks.
    • Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for close contacts.

3. Confirmed Mpox Cases (April 2026)

  • Cases: The CDA reported two confirmed cases of locally transmitted mpox clade Ib in April 2026.
  • Risk Level: The risk to the general public is considered low, with infections linked to intimate contact.

4. Official Launch and New Frameworks (Nov 2025–April 2026) [1]

  • New Agency: The CDA became fully operational on April 1, 2025, consolidating functions from the Ministry of Health (MOH), National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), and Health Promotion Board (HPB).
  • Pandemic Preparedness: The CDA launched the “Singapore Pandemic Preparedness and Response Framework,” a “plug-and-play” system designed to manage both known and unknown threats.
  • One Health Strategy: The agency is collaborating with the National Environment Agency (NEA) and Singapore Food Agency (SFA) under a “One Health” approach to manage threats.
